Rex Howard Sweat

Rex Howard “Howie” Sweat, age 70 of LaFollette, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, April 1, 2024, surrounded by his loved ones. He was born on March 10, 1954, to the late Cuen (Honey) and Eltha (Dial) Sweat. Rex enjoyed softball, cooking, westerns, and wrestling.  He was also employed with the Campbell County School System for over 30 years where he worked for Valley View and Jacksboro Middle School. Rex touched so many lives on this earth with his kindness, personality, smile, and sense of humor. He was a member of First Independent Missionary Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother J.W. Sweat; sister Clydia Jean Freeman and husband Bill and Glenia (Dean) Dunn; niece Sherri Freeman Hall; father-in-law Buddy Parolari; and sister-in-law Cheryl Ohnmacht.

Rex is survived by his loving wife of 36 years Susie Sweat of LaFollette; son Dusty Killion of LaFollette; granddaughter Faren (Killion) Kiernan and husband Max of Maynardville; sister Christine Sweat Morton of LaFollette; sister-in-laws Linda Ohnmacht of LaFollette and Angie Hutson and husband Tony of Powell’ brother-in-law Jack Dunn of Middlesboro, KY; several nieces, nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends, whom he loved dearly.

Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 PM on Thursday, April 4, 2024, at First Independent Missionary Baptist Church with the funeral service to follow at 7:00 PM with Rev. Don Whited and Rex’s nephew Rev. Bo Freeman officiating. Friends and family will meet at 10:00 AM on Friday, April 5, 2024, at Martin Wilson Funeral Home to go in funeral procession to Dogwood Memorial Garden for an 11:00 AM interment.
