Sue Poteet Obituary

Sue Spradlin Poteet of LaFollette, gained her heavenly wings on Friday, April 5, 2024.  She was a member of Midway Baptist Church and attended Pleasant Grove Baptist Church for many years.

Sue’s proudest accomplishment was being a mother, then later grandmother (to 5 “perfect” grandchildren) then great-grandmother to 7 (also perfect) great-grandchildren. She was always their greatest supporter, defender, and champion, showering them with unconditional love.

Her beloved son, Timothy Ewell Spradlin, was waiting with open arms to welcome her to her heavenly family reunion. Also waiting to welcome her was first husband, Ewell Spradlin, her parents, Albert and Pearlie Sweeney Young, brothers, Robert, Lonas, Ray, and Lonie Young along with her sisters, Gladys Woods, Myrtle Ford, Lizzie Chambers, Wanda Carroll, and Irene Bolton, who was also her best friend.

She leaves behind her loving husband of 30 years, Tommy Poteet, of LaFollette, to cherish her memory. She also leaves behind her daughter, Susan Spradlin Treece, of Knoxville and son, Randy (Missy) Spradlin, of Jacksboro, along with those beloved grandchildren, Jared (Deborah) Treece, Emily (Craig) Spradlin Morris, Jordan (Whitney) Treece, Madison Spradlin, and Kendra Young Watson. Sue is also survived by her precious great-grandchildren, Delanie Watson, Scarlett Silcox, Ethan Treece, Trent Treece, Mia Morris, Jace Treece, and Hallie Treece.  Also cherishing her memory are two very special nieces, Lori Bolton Mendez (amazing cook, caregiver, and superwoman), and Michele Bolton West, both of LaFollette, along with a host of other nieces and nephews, and very special friend, caregiver, and another superwoman, Tammy Welden of Andersonville. Also mourning her passing are stepson Darryl Poteet of LaFollette, stepdaughters Sheila (Jeff) Russell and Monica (Jason) Trantham, both of Cleveland, TN, step-grandchildren, Kelton Poteet, Kolby Poteet, Logan Russell, Lacey Poteet, Jayce Trantham, and Clay Trantham, brother-in-law Arnold Poteet, sisters-in law Eunice (Bruce) Welch, Lucille (Roy) Pittman, and Brenda (Gary) Mundy.

Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 PM on Sunday, April 7, 2024, in the chapel of Martin Wilson Funeral Home with the funeral service to follow at 7:00 PM with Rev. Donavon Welden and Lonnie Welden officiating. Family and friends will meet at 10:15 AM on Monday, April 8, 2024, at Martin Wilson Funeral Home to go in funeral procession to Campbell Memorial Gardens for an 11:00 AM interment.

The family would like to extend a huge thank you to Delana Hutchison and the staff at UT Hospice. They are all special angels who were so compassionate and kind to Sue and her family throughout her illness.
