CAPT. BENNIE RAY WALKER, USMC RETIRED

Ray Walker, age 70 of Jacksboro passed away October 22, 2011 surrounded by his family at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Jacksboro.

Ray was reared in Dodge County, Georgia and graduated from Telfair County High School in 1959. Upon his graduation he joined the United States Marine Corps. In his 20 years of service, he had 3 tours of duty in Okinawa and Viet Nam. He received numerous medals of which some are The Purple Heart Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal, Viet Nam Service Medal, R V N Campaign Medal, R V N. Gallantry Cross Medal, and Civic Action Honor Medal. Ray entered the Marine Corps as a Private and Retired as a Captain. Upon his retirement, he moved his family from California to Campbell County, Tennessee and enrolled in The Tennessee Technology Center. He graduated and opened his own business as A-1 Heating and Air Conditioning. He operated that business for 30 years.

He was preceded in death by his Parents. Willie B.and Minnie K Walker. Brother, Larry Robert Walker, and Sister-in-Law Lynda Walker.
Ray is survived by his wife of 50 years, Betty Hamilton Walker of Jacksboro. Daughter and Son-in-law, Jennifer and Sean Galloway of Oak Ridge. Grandsons, Jared and Tyler Galloway. Sisters and brothers in law, Sue and Ken Bass, Joy and Thomas Rogers. Brother and sister in law, Lyn and Judy Walker. Sister in law and brother in law, Pam and Benny Shown and numerous other relatives to mourn his passing.

Funeral service will be 8 PM Monday October 24, 2011 in Martin Wilson Chapel with Rev. Donald Morris officiating. Interment will be at 11 AM Tuesday October 25 in Bakers Forge Cemetery with Campbell County Honor Guard in charge of graveside service. Family will receive friends from 6 PM until 8 PM before funeral service. In lieu of flowers the family asks that Donations be made to the Disabled American Veterans at PO Box 14301 Cincinnati, OH 45250.
