Bill A. Rutherford Sr.

June 1, 1944 — May 20, 2017

Bill A. Rutherford Sr. age 72 of Jacksboro, entered the gates of Heaven on Saturday, May 20, 2017 at Parkwest Medical Center. Bill was born June 1, 1944 in Caryville to the late James and Viola Smith Rutherford. He was a U.S. Army veteran, who served his country proudly. Bill was a steward and very active member of Ivy Dell Pentecostal Church of God, where he loved attending and worshipping his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren who was his pride and joys. Bill retired as Police Chief of Jacksboro Police Department after 47 years of faithful service to his town and county. For the last 16 years, he served as Constable of District 3 in Campbell County. He had 46 certificates of achievement in law enforcement.  Bill had a loving heart and helped everyone that he met.


In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers; Roger and Rudy Rutherford; sisters, Helen and Barbara Rutherford.


Bill is survived by loving and devoted wife of 41 years, Renda Nolan Rutherford of Jacksboro; sons, Bill Rutherford Jr. and wife, Ashley of Jacksboro, Joey Rutherford of Caryville, Steven Rutherford; daughters, Dawn Mynatt and husband, Jimmy of LaFollette, B.J. Tolliver of Jacksboro, Wendy Garrison of Caryville, Sherri Muse and husband, David of Jacksboro; brother; Rev. Jimmy Rutherford and wife, Shelia. Bill is also survived by 10 grandchildren and several nieces, nephews, and host of other relatives and friends.


Visitation will be Monday, May 22, 2017 from 5:00 to 8:00 PM in the chapel of Martin Wilson Funeral Home with the funeral to follow at 8:00 PM with Rev. Jimmy Rutherford and his son, Rev. Bill Rutherford Jr. officiating. Campbell County Sherriff's Department will be doing the changing of guard during visitation and will serve at pallbearers. Family and friends will meet at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, May 23, 2017 at Martin Wilson Funeral Home to proceed to Campbell Memorial Gardens for 11:00 AM interment. At the graveside service, they will be giving the Last Call for Bill A. Rutherford Sr. and military honors for his faithful service by the Campbell County Honor Guard.


In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Ivy Dell Pentecostal Church of God Building Fund, 121 Henderson Lane, Jacksboro, Tennessee 37757.
