Charles Russ Martin, Sr., age 92, of LaFollette departed this life on Thursday, July 9, 2015. He was a loving husband of 69 years, a loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather that enjoyed spending time with his family, Mr. Martin joined the Army on March 5, 1940 and was in the Co. A. 18th Infantry 1st Division. He was captured on December 23, 1942 in Tunis N. Africa and taken to Camp 59 in Italy where he spent 9 months. He escaped September 12, 1943 and was behind enemy lines for 9 months and was then returned to Allied Forces on June 28, 1944.
He was preceded in death by his parents Charles & Isabel (White) Martin, brothers Kyle and Carl Guss Martin and sisters Geraldine Derrington, Frankie Martin and Reba Robinson.
He is survived by his wife Mildred (Adkins) Martin, sons Charles Russ Martin, Jr. of LaFollette and Randal Ray Martin & wife Kathy of Jacksboro, grandchildren Jordan Martin and Kristen Coley and 3 great grandchildren.
Family will receive friends 12:00-1:30 pm on Saturday, July 11, 2015 in Martin Wilson Chapel with the funeral service to follow with Rev. Wayne Phillips officiating. Interment will follow the service in Norris Memorial Cemetery.
