Clara Belle Prim, age 82 of LaFollette went home to be with the Lord on December 23, 2016. She was a member of Fordtown Baptist Church. Clara was preceded in death by her father Bailey McGhee, mother Bessie McGhee and twin brother Clifton McGhee. She leaves to mourn her passing daughter Tammy Hill and husband Darrell; son Robert Prim Jr. and wife Shirley; grandson Jerrod Prim; sisters Lula Belle Meredith and husband James, Margie McGhee and Patricia McGhee; brothers Hildred (Sonny) McGhee and wife Carmelita, Glenn McGhee and wife Brenda, Hobert McGhee and wife Jewell, Shirley McGhee and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Clara was born on October 7, 1934 in Shea, TN to Bailey and Bessie McGhee. She and her twin brother Clifton were delivered by Dr. Roscoe Pryse, who gave Clara her middle name of Belle in honor of his wife, Sammie Belle Pryse. Unfortunately, Clifton died of polio at the age of two. In the mid-1980s Clara was diagnosed with terminal cancer colon cancer, from which she was divinely healed after being given only a year to live. In 2001 she was diagnosed with Leukemia but again continued to thrive thanks to her unwavering faith in God, a good doctor, and medicine that kept her cancer in remission. Clara never became bitter or depressed over her health challenges; on the contrary throughout her life she maintained a positive and sweet demeanor that won the trust and hearts of everyone she met. Clara was a friend to many and never met a stranger. She worked for almost 20 years at St. Mary's/ Tennova Health and Rehab where she was loved by both patients and staff. She enjoyed her work immensely and felt it was her calling in life to care for the patients to the best of her ability. It was not unusual for to arrive at work an hour or two early during which time she would visit with the patients before her shift started. In 2002 she was named Caregiver of the Year by the facility. Clara very much enjoyed traveling, especially anytime flying was involved; she even experienced every flyer's dream of getting bumped up to first class on one particular flight! Clara was a nurturing, loving mother, and the rock on which family members and friends depended for many years. She was unfailing in her love and devotion to family and friends and loved attending church at Fordtown Baptist Church. She was also a long-time member of the Order of the Eastern Star, having been initiated into the order in June 1957. The family is deeply grateful for the kind, compassionate employees of Caris Healthcare for the outstanding level of care they provided at the end of Clara's life; In addition, Clara's sisters Pat and Margie McGhee were instrumental in Clara's care; Pat unselfishly lived with Clara 24/7 to take care of her, and Margie ran errands and did the shopping for Clara, and assisted Pat in the day-to-day care of Clara.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Campbell County Cancer Association, 210 East Beech St. LaFollette, TN 37766.
The family will receive friends Tuesday December 27, 2016 from 6:00 pm until 8;00 pm with funeral to begin at 8:00 with Rev. Tim Dupuy and Rev. David Hicks. The graveside services will be at Campbell Memorial Gardens at 11:00 am on Wednesday, December 28, 2016.
