Dandridge

Doris Jean Coffman Smith

(April 25, 1951 – February 7, 2022)

Doris Jean Coffman Smith, age 70 of Dandridge, Tennessee, passed into eternal life on February 7, 2022 after a valiant struggle with ovarian cancer. Doris was born in Confluence, Pennsylvania to Ernest M. and Janet L. Show Coffman. She is preceded in death by her beloved parents.

Doris is survived by her husband Milton, son Christopher and wife Angela of New Market; son Andrew of Washington, D.C., sister Libby Vickers of Hardin County, Kentucky, brothers Barry of White House, Tennessee, and Mark Coffman of Louisville, Kentucky; uncle Jimmy Show of Lisbon, Ohio, and much-loved aunt and phone buddy Betty Henry of Somerset County, Pennsylvania, and a host of cousins.

Doris grew up in Elizabethtown, Kentucky where she graduated from East Hardin High School in 1969 with the senior superlative of "most studious" and the prestigious Daughters of the American Revolution scholarship award. The first woman on both sides of her family to go to college, Doris attended the University of Kentucky where she met the love of her life and graduated in 1973 with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting.

As a drill sergeant's daughter, Doris inherited a determined personality and a hard work ethic. At the age of two, she escaped the supervision of several MPs at Fort Knox to search for a lost kitten and successfully eluded capture for several hours.

Doris loved chatty, fun, and humorful conversations, family get-togethers, and catching up with friends. She always enjoyed a good day of shopping. A wonderful seamstress, Doris had a keen eye for interior decorating, fashion, and matching her purses and shoes. Her favorite hobbies included gardening and painting.

As a pioneering woman in the world of accounting and banking, Doris' career as a CPA encompassed working at banks in Elizabethtown, Lexington, and Nashville; teaching at community colleges; and managing the books of Men's Hair Club franchises at PAI Medical Group of Brentwood, Tennessee, most recently before her retirement.

The memorial service is Friday, February 11 from 1:00-2:00 PM at Martin Wilson Funeral Home in LaFollette, Tennessee with the funeral service to follow at 2:00 PM.
