Edna Gillum Overton

Edna Gillum Overton of Dayton, TN., formerly of LaFollette, departed this world for her heavenly home Wednesday, August 9, 2017.  She was born in Pineville, KY and moved to LaFollette at an early age.  She was a member of High Street Baptist Church, a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great grandmother.  Preceded in death by husband Arvel Overton Sr., infant son Arvel Overton Jr.; parents Tom and Mahalia Howard Gillum; sister Ethel Hignite; brother Howard Gillum.

She is survived by daughters Ella Lee Marshall, Ida Jean Ayers (Jerry), Stella Adams, and Sarah Murray (Edward); son Johnny Overton (Darla).  Five grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren; sister Ella Shepherd; sister-in-law Stella Ridinger; several nephews, nieces, and a host of other relatives and friends.

The family will receive friends 6:00 – 8:00 PM Friday, August 11, 2017 at Martin Wilson Funeral Home.  Edna will lie in state from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM in the chapel of Martin Wilson Funeral Home on Saturday, August 12th. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 PM with Rev. Kenny Gillum officiating. Her internment will follow in Woodlawn cemetery.
