Georgia Vollena Brandenburg, age 92, of Stinking Creek, passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, May 13, 2026. Born on December 23, 1933, Vollena lived 92 beautiful years filled with faith, family, and love.

Vollena, lovingly known as Mamaw Brandenburg, was born and raised in Stinking Creek and attended Flat Rock School and Stinking Creek School. She worked for many years in local sewing factories before retiring. She was a faithful member of Stanfield Church of God.

She loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Vollena never missed a birthday party, graduation, wedding, shower, or family gathering. She loved to stay busy and never turned down an opportunity to go somewhere. She enjoyed sewing and quilting and took great pride in handmaking each of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren a special quilt to cherish for years to come.

Vollena also had a green thumb and loved growing flowers. She was a wonderful cook and was well known for her stack cakes, fudge, peanut butter rolls, and chicken and dumplings. Above all else, she was everything a wife, mother, and grandmother should be.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Curtis Brandenburg; daughters, Rebecca Ayers and Debbie Campbell; parents, Rosie and Curtis Bruce; sister, Wanda Whaley; brothers, Bill Ed Bruce and Danny Bruce; sister and brother-in-law, Loretta and Lee Wells; and brother-in-law, L.D. Vinsant.

She is survived by her daughter, Peggy Ayers and husband Darrell; sons, Don Bruce and wife Beverly, Franklin Brandenburg and wife Lisa, Larry Brandenburg and wife Tracy, and DeWayne Brandenburg; son-in-law, Wendall Ayers; sister and brother-in-law, Azalea and Ray Watson; sister, Roberta Vinsant; and sister-in-law, Mary Ruth Bruce.

She also leaves behind her beloved grandchildren: Shannon Brandao and husband Hugo, Jeremy Bruce and wife Kristen, Kevin Ayers and wife Chantel, Monica Case, Lonnie Campbell, Amy Davis and husband Scott, Rebecca Herrell and husband Joe, Keith Brandenburg and wife Jessica, Jonathan Brandenburg, Brent Ayers and wife Lacey, Devin Bailey, and Curtis Brandenburg and wife Brinley.

Her great-grandchildren include Brannon Bruce, Daniel Ayers, Jordan Metcalf, Shalun Daniels, Mattea King, Sarah Wilkins, Shana Campbell, Reagan Davis, Rilynn Davis, Grant Davis, Georgia Herrell, Gentry Herrell, Lauren Brandenburg, Alyssa Brandenburg, Benson Brandenburg, Aria Brandenburg, Brynnlie Ayers, Oliver Ayers, and Oakley Ayers. She is also survived by her great-great-grandchildren, Baylor Wilkins, Greyson King and Bonnie Bruce, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and many special friends.

Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 PM on Sunday, May 17, 2026, at Stanfield Church of God. Funeral service will follow at 7:00 PM with Rev. Delmus Bruce officiating. Family and friends will meet at 10:00 AM on Monday May 18, 2026, at Martin Wilson Funeral Home to go in funeral procession to Melvin Cemetery for an 11:00 AM interment.
