Irene Gilbert

Irene (McCurry) Gilbert, age 84, of LaFollette passed away Tuesday, October 8, 2013 at home surrounded by her family. She married Willard J. Gilbert July 18, 1946 in Harlan County, KY. He preceded her in death July 27, 2006. She was born to Manual & Fannie McCurry July 11, 1929 in Louisville, KY. She was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents Manual & Fannie; brothers Armour, Robert, Arthur, Delbert, and Burl; sisters Ruby, Della, Jewel, Opal, and Agnes; grandson Joshua Emanual Carroll; great-granddaughter Carleigh Addison Carroll; daughter-in-law Shirley A. Gilbert; and brother-in-law Howard Dean.

She is survived by her sister Betty Lou Dean; brother Lee Roy McCurry; sons Jerry Gilbert and Robert Michael Gilbert & companion Colleen Land; daughter Karen Kay (Carroll) Gilbert & husband Terry S. Carroll; grandchildren Chad E. Gilbert & wife Valerie, Michael S. Gilbert & wife Erin, Jeremy Michael Gilbert & wife Jenny, Hickory Rose Gilbert, Stephen Michael Carroll & wife Shannon, and Daniel Wayne Carroll & wife Jeanne; and 10 great-grandchildren. Special thanks to the Amedisys Home Health and Amedisys Hospice Care and to Aunt Betty, Shannon, & Jeanne for staying and helping my sisters.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 10th, 2013 from 6:00 - 8:00 pm at Martin Wilson Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held on Friday, October 11th, 2013 at Martin Wilson Funeral Home with Rev. Jimmy Orick and Rev. Kenny Allen officiating. Interment will follow the service at Powell Valley Cemetery.
