James Archie Cotton, age 97 of Caryville, passed away Wednesday, December 10, 2008 at the St. Mary's Medical Center of Campbell County. He was a member of Paint Rock Baptist Church in Oneida. Mr. Cotton served 2 terms on Campbell County School Board and was vice mayor of Caryville. He was president and co-owner of Hurricane Coal Company. He was a superintendent of operation at White Silica Sand Company of Caryville for 7 years. He was a life long democrat and a beekeeper for 50 years. Archie loved to fish and hunt, he loved the mountains and ride 4 wheelers.
Preceded in death by First Wife: Hattie Douglas Cotton. Daughter: Lois Cotton Chambers. Parents: Wayne and Melda Keeton Cotton. Sisters: Iva and Lula West, Eva Buttram, and Murtie Martin. Brothers: Arvil, Delbert, Fred and Melford Cotton. Grandson: James Lloyd Asbury.
Survived by Wife: Eunice Cotton of Caryville. Son: James A. "Buddy" Cotton Jr. of Caryville. Daughters: Lillian Asbury of Michigan, Linda Vitatoe of Caryville, Glenda Fay Parr of Oneida, Jewell Dean Gilbert of Oneida and Patricia Laxton of Oneida. Sister and Brother in Law: Bea Burnett and Mel Horihan of Knoxville. Many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Funeral Service will be 7 PM Thursday, December 11, 2008 in Martin Wilson Chapel with Rev. Herbert Jones, Rev. Dean Barnes and Rev. Doyle Worley officiating. Interment will be 11 AM Friday in Woodlawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 PM Thursday night before funeral service.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Paint Rock Baptist Church, 4970 Paint Rock Road, Oneida, TN 37841.
