Jewell Leach Winstead

October 3, 1930 — February 23, 2015

Jewell Leach Winstead of LaFollette, born October 3, 1930, passed away peacefully on February 23, 2015 in Birmingham, Alabama. She was a resident of The Oaks on Parkwood, where she moved to be near her son, Mark. Jewell was the daughter of Harrison and Pearl Leach. She was born and grew up in LaFollette, a member of a large and loving family. Jewell was loved by everyone who knew her. She was kind, caring, and loved unconditionally. She enjoyed being outdoors, working in her garden and cooking for her family. Her life revolved around the people she loved, especially her brothers and sisters. She loved her sons and grandchildren more than life itself and treated her daughter-in-laws as though they were her own daughters. She touched the lives of many people and will be missed, but her footprints on our hearts will remain forever.

Jewell was preceded in death by her beloved son, Michael (Mike); her husband, Jimmy; and brothers, Ralph Leach and William (Bill) Leach.

She is survived by her sons, Steve Winstead (Margaret) and Mark Winstead (Vicki); grandchildren, Michael Winstead (Rachel), Matthew Winstead, John Winstead, Timothy Winstead (Bethany), Sarah W. Brown (Josh), and Anna W. Meza (Herman); great-grandchildren, Robert Mark Winstead and Eleanor (Ella) Grace Brown; sisters, June James, Evelyn Bailey and Margie Ford; a brother J.B. Leach; devoted sister-in-law Judy Leach and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation and Funeral services will be held on March 1 at Cedar Hill Baptist Church. Visitation begins at 2:00 with funeral service to follow at 3:00 with Rev. Ronnie Arnold officiating. Graveside services immediately afterward at Woodlawn Cemetery.

Martin Wilson Funeral Home of LaFollette is in charge of these arrangements.
