Joan (Mccarty) Hill

Joan Hill, age 80, of LaFollette, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 21, 2017, at the same home she shared for over 60 years with her childhood sweetheart and husband, O.D.  Joan was a member of Alder Springs Baptist Church, and was preceded in death by her father, William McCarty; mother, Janie McCarty Kitts; and brothers Daniel (Bud) McCarty and Jim Kitts.  She is survived by her husband, Rev. O.D. Hill; son Darrell Hill and wife Tammy; daughters Sandy Brown, and Sharon Richard and husband John; sisters Von Wilson and Sue Taylor; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

In her younger years, Joan worked as a waitress at Laxton's Coffee Shop and Powell 5 & 10; she later went on to establish Joan's Bakeshop, and had a long and loyal following of customers.  Many marriages and birthdays were celebrated with a cake from Joan, and the deliciousness of her baked goods was unmatched.  Joan loved the Lord, and possessed a true servant's heart.  She was an exceptional wife and nurturing mother, and leaves a legacy of love in the hearts of her children.

The family wishes to thank Caris Healthcare for their compassionate care.  In addition, a debt of gratitude is owed to Joan's sisters Von and Sue, for their unwavering commitment to Joan's care during her illness, right up to the very end of her time on earth.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 pm on Sunday, April 23, 2017, at Martin-Wilson Funeral Home in LaFollette, with funeral to follow.  The Rev. Kyle McDowell will officiate.  The burial will be on Monday, April 24, 2017 at Baker's Forge Cemetery, with graveside service at 10:00 am.
