Mary Ellen Vinsant Allen age 93 of Jacksboro, Tennessee passed from this life on March 12, 2011 at her home in Jacksboro. She was born Mary Ellen Vinsant on September 9, 1917.
She was preceeded in death by Parents Fred and Elizabeth (Wier) Vinsant. Husband Ed Allen Sr. Daughters Mary Ann Allen and Wilma Jean Allen Parks. Brothers Joe Vinsant of Lake City, Vance Vinsant of Opelaka, Al and Gerald Vinsant of Tampa, Fl. Sisters: Isadora Nelson and Eliza Hutson of Jacksboro. Son-In-Law Thomas Jack Chambers
She is survived by Sister Kathleen Daugherty of Jacksboro and Brother Don Vinsant of VA. Children: Edward (Ed) Allen Jr., Peggy Allen, Debbie Elaine Chambers and Elizabeth and husband John Lovegrove all of Jacksboro and Linda and husband Neil Smith of Knoxville. Adopted Granddaughter Christy husband Brian and Great-Granddaughter Briley Carter of Kingston, Tn. Grandson Arnold, wife Kim Smith and son Justin Weeks of Bristow, Va. Granddaughters Paige, husband Bill and Great Grandson Will Sowder and Maygen Chambers, Grandson J.J., wife Kerri and Great Granddaughter Caroline Lovegrove all of Knoxville,Tn. Sister-in-Law Telitha and husband Clyde Jenner of Oak Ridge. Special friends and caregivers: Shirley and Michael Robbins, Geraldine Allen, Carol Rooker, Jennie Williamson, Deanna McMahan, Barbara Carter, Mary Lou Payne and Jim Davis. Numerous Nieces, Nephews other relatives and friends.
A graduate of Lincoln Memorial University where she received a degree in Education. She was a teacher in the Campbell County School system finishing her teaching career at Caryville Elementary in 1977.
Family will meet with visitors for a celebration of Mary's life at Mt Zion Methodist Church, 131 Mt. Zion Lane in Jacksboro, on Saturday March 19th from 3 to 5 Pm, musical celebration, memorial service and graveside service, with Rev. Jim Mullins officiating, will follow. Rose service and interment in Mt. Zion cemetery immediately following service.
Although Mother loved flowers, she considered donations to the cemetery funds at Mt. Zion Church and Jacksboro cemetery of great importance. Donations to either fund would also honor her memory.
