Mattie Byrd (Childress) Cook

May 6, 1929 — December 6, 2017

Mattie (Childress) Byrd Cook, age 88 went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, December 6, 2017.  She was a devoted member of Lakeview Baptist Church and her church family.  Mattie stayed active in the church for many years.  She was a truly a messenger for God and all who met her loved her dearly.


She is preceded in death by parents Ralph and Maggie Childress; 1st husband Rev. Herman Byrd, 2nd husband Aubrey Cook; sons Donald and Larry Byrd; brother Robert Childress; sister Loretta Miller.


She is survived by sons Ronald Byrd & wife Jane of Maryville, Wayne Cook & wife Sandy of LaFollette; daughter-in-law Lyn Byrd of Friendsville; sister Kathleen McKamey & husband Jim of Dayton, Ohio; 6 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; a host of other relatives, and friends.


Visitation will be 4-6 PM Friday, December 8, 2017 at Lakeview Baptist Church; funeral service will follow at 6 PM with Rev. Roger Stanley officiating.  Friends and family will meet 9:30 AM Saturday, December 9, 2017 at Laurel Bank Cemetery in Friendsville for the graveside service with Rev. Ron Day officiating.
