Maxine Carter Gaw

Maxine Carter Gaw, 73 of Cookeville, Tennessee, passed away on Sunday, April 6, 2025, at her home, surrounded by her family.

Maxine was born Tuesday, November 27, 1951, in La Follette, Tennessee, the daughter of the late George Franklin and Effnora (Rutherford) Carter.

Maxine was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend. She loved the Lord and was a firm believer. She was a CNA for many years, working at CRMC and NHC. She was a nurturer and a caregiver at heart. Maxine was loved by all who knew her, and she will be greatly missed.

Maxine is survived by, Son, Eric Gaw and his wife, Sophie; 2 Sisters, Fontella Lessnau and Pamela Carter; 2 Brothers, Henry Lee and Mickey Ray Carter and his wife, Gayle; Special Niece and Roommate, Cindy Douglas; Nieces Erica, Becky, and Monica; Step-Children, Cheryl, Paula, and Christie; A host of grandchildren, great nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and special friends; To that host, Granny loves you.

In addition to her parents, Maxine was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Thurman Benton Gaw; 2 Brothers, Delmas and Gary Carter; 2 Sisters-In-Law, Phoebe and Lorene Carter; Nephew, Ryan Lessnau; Step-Children, Kenny and Douglas Gaw, and Kimberly Parrott; and her Special Fur Baby, Cha Chi.

Celebration of Life for Maxine Gaw will be held Saturday, May 3, 2025, at 3:00 pm from the chapel of Crest Lawn Funeral Home with Phillip Rutherford officiating.

Visitation with the family will be held Saturday, May 3, 2025, from 1:00 pm until the time of service.

There will also be a Celebration of Life for Maxine on Saturday, June 7, 2025 at 2:00 pm at the LaFollette Community Center at 300 West Beach Street, LaFollette, Tennessee, 37766.
