Rev. Oliver Perry Byrd age 79 LaFollette passed away Saturday, March 7, 2009 at the St. Mary's Medical Center in Campbell Co. He pastored Nicks Creek Baptist Church for 2 years, River View Baptist Church of Smokey Jct. for 2 years, Tannery Hollow Baptist Church of Jellico for 9 months, and High Street Baptist Church for 34 years. He was also a veteran of the US Army, a coal miner and a retired roofing contractor. O.P. was a loving dedicated husband, father, and friend.
Preceded in death by Parents: William and Melinda Burris Asbury. Brothers: Alfred, Crawford, and Leon Byrd. Infant Great Grandson: Aiden Gage Bolinger. Infant Great Granddaughter: Kristen Leigh Ballenger. Sister: Violet Byrd Lowe.
Survived by Wife of 58 years: Alma Ward Byrd of LaFollette. Children: Linda Robbins and Husband: Paul of Knoxville, Roger Byrd and Wife: Vickie of Jacksboro, Beverly Capps and Husband: Carl of LaFollette, Teresa Burton and Husband: Robert of Jacksboro, Dwane Byrd and Wife: Theresa of Speedwell. 10 Grandchildren, 10 great Grandchildren. Brother: Sherwood Byrd and Wife: Ireda of Fairborn, Ohio. Sister: Nancy Byrd Lowe of Fairborn, Ohio. And a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Funeral service will be 8 PM Sunday, March 8 in Martin Wilson Chapel with Rev. David Goins and Rev. Dwane Byrd officiating. Interment will be 11 AM Monday in Campbell Memorial Gardens with the Campbell Co. Honor Guard to conduct Graveside Service. The family will receive friends from 5 until 8 PM Sunday night before funeral service.
