Richard "Rick" Neil Nelson

Richard “Rick” Neil Nelson, age 82, born in Chapmanville, WV, departed this life while surrounded by his family on March 23, 2026. He was a loving husband of 61 years, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He was an avid fisherman, hunter, gardener, and enjoyed anything to do with the outdoors. Rick very much enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He was a member of Fincastle Church, where he was baptized into the Global Methodist faith by Rev. Steve Evans.

Rick is preceded in death by his parents, Isaac and Sarah Ferrell Nelson; brothers, Paul and Ray Nelson; sisters, Shirley Toney, June Paris, and Patty Nelson; 3 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Judy Kay Saylor Nelson; sons, Christopher Neil Nelson of Speedwell, Scott Richard Nelson and wife Stella of Cumberland Gap, and Kevin Andrew Nelson and wife Kristy of Speedwell; daughters, Rebecca Varney and husband John of Winchester, KY, and Cynthia “Cyndi” Russell of Jacksboro; brothers, James Nelson and wife Edna of Crossville, Keith Nelson of Ohio, Bobby Nelson and wife Vikki of Ohio, and Jackie Nelson of Texas; sisters, Janet Porter of West Virginia, Carol Nelson of Illinois; grandchildren, Karen Johnson and husband Greg, Matthew Varney and wife Jessica, Leslie Covington, Amanda Allen and husband Colby, Justin Russell and wife Ashley, Jacob Nelson and wife Heidi, Baeli Nelson, Emilee Williams, Kaitlyn Chicos, Jackson Nelson, Madison Nelson, and Kelsey Elliott; great-grandchildren, Porter, Will, Charlie Kate, Zara, Lexi, Ellie, Lilly, Caiden, Annabeth, Winnie, and Emma.

The family will receive friends on Monday, March 30, 2026, from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM in the chapel of Martin Wilson Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life will follow at 5:00 PM with Rev. Steve Evans officiating.
