Taft Moffett

Newell Taft Moffett, age 86 died on October 3, 2022 at his home with his family he loved so dear at his side. He was born on March 4, 1936. Taft was a graduate of Spring City High School, "Class of 1955". Taft was a dairy farmer most of his life. He was an avid racoon and quail hunter. His life was happiest when he was teaching the boys in Wolf Creek how to become "coon hunters." He also enjoyed traveling along with his wife across the country in their camper. He was a member of Wolf Creek Baptist Church in Spring City, where he served as a deacon for over 50 years.

He was preceded in death by his precious daughter Glenda Miller, his parents Ruby and Monroe Moffett, his brothers Edd Moffett, and Boyd Moffett, Glen Moffett and his sister Sara Hudson; also, nephews Don Moffett and Steve Moffett.

Survivors include his wife of sixty-seven years Maxine Smith Moffett, his daughter Vadonna Moffett of Spring City, adopted son John (Amy) Allen of Georgia, son-in-law Jerry Miller; grandchildren Rev. Corey Miller of Calhoun, Paige (Keith) Jenkins, Gerriann (Robert) Howse both of Spring City, Will Allen, Elizabeth Allen, and Henry Allen of Georgia; great grandchildren Addison Ballard, Karson Jenkins, Grayson Jenkins, Zaxton Howse, and Kaylonis Howse; brothers Kenneth Moffett ( Linda) of Cleveland, TN; sisters Lorene Porter of Spring City, TN, Imogene Pendleton of Cleveland, TN, and Addie Tallent (Paul) of Spring City, TN; and several nieces, nephews, friends, and relatives.

Funeral services for Taft will be Wednesday, October 5, 2022 at 4:00 PM at Wolf Creek Baptist Church in Spring City with Rev. Paul Forgey officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 1:00-4:00 PM prior to the funeral service. Interment will follow the funeral service at Moffett Family Cemetery located on Pittman Lane in Spring City.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations be given to the Wolf Creek Baptist Church, 5225 Wolf Creek Road, Spring City, TN 37381.

The family has entrusted the care of Newell Taft Moffett to Martin Wilson Funeral Home "Where Families Matter Most."
