Walter Allen Dossett, age 89 of Lafollette passed away Tuesday, December 16, 2008 at Summitt View Nursing Home in Lake City after a courageous battle with leukemia. He was a life long resident of Campbell County. He was a veteran of World War II serving as a tank driver and a mechanic with the U.S. Third Army 6th Armored Division. His division helped to open a liberation path from Brest, France to Bastogne, Belgium prior to attacking Germany. At the conclusion of the war, Walter received a Bronze Star Medal for service as a tank driver and mechanic. He also received five Bronze Stars for his participation in the Battles of Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardenness-Alsace and Central Europe. After being honorably discharged, he returned to Campbell County and worked in Oak Ridge at Y-12 for 26 years. He was a member of the American Legion and VFW.

Preceded in death by Parents: Thomas David and Minnie Allen Dossett. Brothers: William H., Huston R. (Pete), Burgin, Otto, Henry and Jeff Dossett. Sisters: Hattie Mills, Retha Allen and Anna Davis.

Survived by Daughter: Carol Fitzgerald of Georgia. Stepson: Ulis Williams of Lafollette. Brother and Sister in Law: Frank and Betty Dossett of Lafollette. Sister and Brother in Law: Nannie and Harold Greene of Knoxville. Sisters: Victoria Lane and Mary Williams of Knoxville. Addie Dodd of Birmingham, AL and Eleanor Northcutt of North Ridgeville, Ohio. Grandchildren: Cathy and Hal Bigelow and Betty and David Kerschke. 6 Great Grandchildren and 2 Great Great Grandchildren. Several nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. Special friends and caregivers: Debbie Nelson, Carl and Becky Reynolds and Charlie Woods.

Funeral Service will be 2 PM Saturday, December 20, 2008 in Martin Wilson Chapel with Rev. James Mullins officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Zion Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12 to 2 PM Saturday before funeral service.
