Wheeler Lynn Nelson, age 97, went home to be with his Lord and Savior and reunited with his loving wife, son, daughter, and other family members on Friday, May 21, 2021. He was born April 19, 1924 in LaFollette to the late William Rose Nelson and Sara Margaret (Boshears) Nelson. He was a United States Army Veteran, where he served his country proudly and was one of the oldest World War II Veterans in Campbell County. Wheeler was a member of Little Cove Creek Baptist Church. He enjoyed reading his bible and working outdoors.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Delphia (Lawson) Nelson; son, Ronnie Nelson; daughter, Linda Nelson; brothers, Charlie, Dewey, Millard, and Paul Nelson; sisters, Emma Jean Cooper-Long and Callie Richardson.
Wheeler is survived by his sons, Lynn Nelson and wife, Doris of Jacksboro, Gary Nelson and wife, Hazel of Columbia, Tennessee, and Sammy Nelson of LaFollette; daughter, Kathy Murphy and husband, Larry of Cadillac, Michigan; brother, Robert Nelson of Loudon; daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Nelson of Bandy, Virginia; seventeen grandchildren, several great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, May 25th, 2021 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Martin Wilson Funeral Home. The funeral service for Wheeler will be on Wednesday, May 26th, 2021 in the chapel of Martin Wilson Funeral Home at 1:00 PM with Rev. Fred Stagnolia officiating. The interment will follow the funeral service at Bakers Forge Cemetery with military honors being presented by the Campbell County Honor Guard.
